THE ABC'S OF LIFE

The Mind And How To Use It

This chapter covers the mind, and how you can use it to your advantage, rather than just being used by it as a puppet on a string. But before we discuss the mind, let's first understand what KISS means:

K keep
I it
S simple
S stupid

You see man has made life so very complicated and it really isn't necessary, so let's look at ourselves in KISS terms, O.K.?

The mind is made up of two different parts: the conscious and the subconscious. Each has its own separate function and operates completely separately from the other, as you can see from the list.

As you will notice by the list, there is quite a difference between the conscious and the subconscious. Actually the subconscious is exactly like a tape recorder; it will only reflect what has been put on its tapes.

Remember seeing a child learns to walk. He has a very hard time at first, but with practice he becomes very good at it and soon he begins to run! The conscious mind thought how and when he learned how then it became automatic. At that point the subconscious took over and he no longer had to think how to walk. Now what happens is that when we want to walk our conscious mind asks our subconscious mind how and the mind plugs in the walk tape and we walk without having to use our conscious mind. You see the conscious mind taught the subconscious mind how, and from that time on it became automatic.

Please refer to the drawing with "the mind as a light bulb" and you will notice that the pointing fingers are actually thoughts that are fed into the subconscious mind (the tape recorder) from the outside world, known as race suggestion. Have you ever walked into an empty house and felt warm and happy, or cold and unhappy? This is due to the vibrations left in the house by the many people who were there before you. Have you ever noticed that some towns are very interested in the arts, while others are more interested in manufacturing? This is because of the vibrations of the people in that area. You may also notice a difference in the vibrations in the country and city.

STOP - Please reread the above so that you understand what the mind is all about.

To better understand what effect past race suggestion actually has on us now, let's picture a newborn baby. This baby has a clean set of tapes in his subconscious mind. Then what happens? Some kind relative looking at this beautiful new baby says, "I hope that baby doesn't take after his father and have his terrible temper." Someone else may say, "I bet he has "X" disease when he is only 20 years old, because his mother had that!" Do all these thoughts go onto the baby's blank tape? YES, that is what happens - the new baby will pick them up. Remember the carrot experiment? So part of your problems today are due to what has been fed into your subconscious mind by past race suggestion.

We also have great news media in this country. You know you hear that the flu is coming and how bad it will be . . . There will be a bad epidemic. They say, "It is very bad and many people will be sick, and some will die." We are all told to get flu shot now. What does this do to you? Are you affected?

You must have heard of doctors giving placebos (sugar pills). These pills have NO power to get the person well, BUT they do! Why? Because the person had faith in the doctor who gave it to him! You see the mind is so very powerful!

What about Aunt Susie, you know the nice old lady in her 80's who broke her arm and the doctor told her that since she was now 86 years old that it would take her six months to heal. Then she asks him why it should take so long, as it was the same break that she had when she was eight years old, and then it only took six weeks! We all know that every cell in our body is only 11 months old, then why so long to heal an old person? Could it be because of race suggestion? Is this why at a certain age we get old looking, our bodies get very tired? I think it is all due to race suggestion. We know what people have told us and we have picked it up and filled in our tapes in our subconscious mind.

STOP - meditate on the above for five minutes. Be sure you understand the effect others have had on you

Man does control his conscious mind and this is great, as this is the only hope for changing the tapes in the subconscious mind. YES, no one, but no one can control your conscious mind but yourself. Ask yourself who controls your thinking? You may say someone else does BUT do he or she really? Your conscious mind IS the only thing that is completely yours. No one can think for you, and therefore you can think whatever you desire. No one controls your thinking and naturally you cannot control anyone else's thinking. Hitler, during the Second World War, tried to control his prisoners' thinking, but could not do it. Even when he tortured them greatly, he could not control their thinking! But since all of us can control the conscious mind, we can learn to use this power; we can reprogram the subconscious mind. How? Please try the following experiment and you will be surprised by your own power.

Exercise #1. For the next three nights repeat to yourself as many times as necessary, to be sure the following thought is the LAST thought on your conscious mind before going to sleep. You may need to repeat the short mantra ten times or 100 times, but it must be the last thought on your conscious mind. The reason for this is that it is a proven fact, that the last thought on your conscious mind goes into your subconscious mind and works there all night. By works there I mean that you will actually be changing one of your tapes. So for the next three nights repeat: "I will wake up happy. " Then notice the difference in your attitude!

After you have been able to notice a change, and not until that time should you go on to a further exercise. The purpose of this simple one is to prove to you how easily and simply you can reprogram our tapes.

Now I want each of you to make two lists. Remember this is a workbook for you, and therefore you should think very carefully about them. And since no one else will see these, then it is to your benefit to be very truthful.

You should add to these lists daily as you think about yourself, remembering that this is your list, and since no one else will see it, you owe it to yourself to be VERY honest. Refer to the drawing on in Chapter 5 and only put down your true self. Let's look at that true self and stop blaming others, as this is your list about young their list about you. Ask yourself, what is good, really good about me? Don't let false modesty get in the way. Write it down. Do the same about what is bad.

This may be a long list or a short one, it really doesn't matter, as long as it is the true YOU.

After you have noticed a change in how you feel when you wake up - and NOT until then-you should start using your list.

So there is no reason to go further in your workbook, until you have mastered the sleep technique. You must take things one step at a time if you really want them to work.

Now let's look at your list. Number them in the order that you feel needs change most or what you feel is most important. Let's assume that #1 is that you don't like yourself! Now we want to change our self-image. Therefore, repeat this new mantra before going to sleep: "I'm alive now and I love myself."

It is very important to get the word NOW in the phrase so that your tapes will know that they should change now. Also it is very important to keep the mantra very short, as you may forget what you are to say. For the next few nights you should tell yourself this until you notice a change in attitude. After you have noticed a change, then go to the second most important item on your list, and on and on. Remember, it took you a long time to get where you are and you need to be patient with yourself as you have all the time in the world.

Another problem that many of us have is that we allow our lower selves to run our lives. When we do, we don't allow God to enter our lives. We are too busy holding onto the past, friends or material things. When a person is thinking that way there isn't room for God. To change this, repeat "let Go and let God, " before going to sleep. By telling our subconscious mind this, it will let go of trivial things and the highest good will be yours.

Always remember - this is your life, you can change it whenever you want to, as fast as you want to.

The reason that you should work on only one thing at a time is that one thing at a time is all a person can do well. As you know, you can break one pencil at a time, and the same is true for habits. You didn't get them all at once, and you won't lose them all at the same time. If you try to break 50 pencils at one time, you will find it as impossible as breaking 50 habits all at once.

It took a lifetime to acquire all those habits, and there is no reason to become discouraged if you don't completely change your life and personality in just a few days. Be patient and understanding with yourself. Be very happy as you see each bad habit drop from your life. Isn't it GREAT that you can do it - just like you grew the carrots!

You are probably thinking-boy - it sounds so easy. It really is. All you have to do is start.

STOP...AND ... THINK about what you have read so far in this chapter. It is the most important so far. Ask yourself "Do I really know what to do? Do I really understand? Do I really want to change?" If the answer is YES then do it, starting NOW. You know that your mind is yours and only yours so use it now for your highest good.

There is another way to use your mind to affect your relationships with others. The approach is as simple as the sleep therapy we discussed previously. This new method is called dream therapy. Direct yourself to dream about the relationship between you and another person - mate, friend or whoever-and tell yourself that, in the dream, your relationship is perfect. Do not say, "They will change" or "I will change," only "I will dream about X, and see that our relationship is perfect now." You may or may not remember your dream. It really makes no difference. It will still work for you.

Consider yourself as A. When you dream, you direct your higher self to contact the higher self of "B." The two higher selves work out the problem. Then shortly your relationship improves. Try it. As you expect the relationship to improve, and want it to, it will.

There is another way to use your mind to improve conditions. This treatment has three steps.

For example, if you want money then put yourself into a meditative state and say something like this:

"There is one supreme power in the Universe now, and I know that I am part of this wonderful power. I now ask for and expect to receive $1,000 now. I do not know from where this will come, or how it will arrive. I only know that since there is an infinite supply in the universe, it is mine right now. For this wonderful gift, I am very thankful and release this thought into the Universe for divine power to do the rest."

This is probably the most important chapter in the workbook. It teaches you three simple techniques to change your subconscious mind and thus change your life. Therefore be sure you master the methods, step by step. How very simple life can be. As we have seen, you can change your life and conditions by any of the following techniques.

  3. Treatment
